Travel blog: El Salvador

In May I took a trip to El Salvador. In case you didn’t know - yes, I’m Salvadoran. Proud Latina! So you can imagine my excitement. I didn’t know what to expect, but to my surprise it was one of the best, most heart felt trips I’ve had thus far. So I’m sharing my experience, a little background, and some of my favorite places.
I stayed with my cousin’s grandparents in San Isidro, Cabañas. A cute little town with local shops and friendly people.
EL TAZUMAL
Archeological Museum in Chalcupa, El Salvador. Tazumal is where the Maya pyramids are located. There is also a Museum available to learn more about the history.
JUAYUA WATERFALLS
Chorros de la Calera. The waterfalls are located in Juayua, also very known for tourists. You hike down to multiple waterfalls that are available for swim. Restaurants, museums, and churches are also in the city.
PLAYA EL TUNCO
This gorgeous beach has a Malibu feel. It’s surrounded by beautiful hotels, restaurants and perfect for tourists. I recommend having lunch at La Hola Beto’s.
LAGUNA DE APASTEPEQUE
A Lagoon located in San Vincente. We took a boat ride around the Lagoon and went for a swim in the naturally warm water.
LAKE COATEPEQUE
The Largest lake in El Salvador. Gorgeous views and known for water activities. We took a Jet ski ride around the lake and mountains. The view was incredible.

FIESTAS DE MAYO
El Salvador is known for its Fiestas that take place in May. It’s like a huge block party, with high security (police and military), music, and beer.
A LITTLE HISTORY
For those of you that may not know, El Salvador is the smallest country in Central America and it is a mountainous country near Guatemala and Honduras. It is known as the land of Volcanoes with many beautiful hidden gems. Amongst being beautiful, it is still one of the poorest country living in poverty. Being amongst locals was a true heart felt experience. Learning how little they have but still make it work all while keeping a smile on their faces. It really made me appreciate the little things more than ever before. I had such an awesome time visiting the motherland, but it was also a learning experience. Don’t take anything for granted as little as it may be. There is someone out there wishing to have the little that you may have. Remember to always show appreciation and don’t let anything get in the way of your dreams.
Xo,
May
